Course Selection

BS (Mass Communication)

w.e.f. Batch 2104

 

Rules:

  1. Students enrolled in the first semester of their study program are given pre-selected courses from respective study scheme by the system; all other students may select their own courses subject to their scheme of studies and the limitations prescribed in the rules below.
  2. The credit hour limits are as below:
    1. A maximum of 18 credit hours per semester are allowed. However, in special circumstances university may allow to enroll maximum 21 credit hours.
    2. In case any student wishes to enroll for one more course beyond the specified credit hours limit in the last two semesters, should submit his/her request to the Rector through Dean. He/she may be allowed by the Rector provided that student’s CGPA is 3.00 or above out of 4.
    3. The minimum course load in a semester shall be according to the study scheme, but in special circumstance it can be minimum of 03-credit hours.

Note: Maximum limits prescribed for enrollment of credit hours includes ‘F’ or ‘D’ grade courses, if any enrolled.

  1. Students taking less than the course load prescribed by their scheme of studies will require extra semesters to complete the curriculum; in such cases they will also have to bear the additional cost.
  2. During a study program, students may attempt to improve a "D" grade course only once.
  3. Students enrolled through “Entry Route Exemption” will be given a list of courses not exempted from first five semesters from respective study scheme. Students can select the courses subject to the limitations prescribed in the rules below.
    1. A maximum of 21 credit hours per semester are allowed.
    2. In case any student wishes to enroll for one more course beyond the specified credit hours limit in the last two semesters, should submit his/her request to the Rector through Dean. He/she may be allowed by the Rector provided that student’s CGPA is 3.00 or above out of 4.

Rules for Internship

1.     In Internship Report (MCMI619: Internship Report), students are required to complete 6-8 weeks internship in any media organization, Ad Agency or PR department. Students shall get Internship Completion Certificate issued by concerned organization.

2.     Students will submit a detailed internship report and will give a viva presentation.

3.     In order to enroll the Internship course, the student must earned 82 or more credit hours.

 Rules for Final Year Project:

  1. The Final Year Project shall be of 06-Credit Hours and will be split in the 7th and 8th semester equally (carrying a workload of 3 credit hours per semester).

2.    In order to enroll Final Year Project, students must have:

                                      I.        Achieved a CGPA of 2 or higher

                                    II.        Earned 101 or more credit hours.

                                   III.        Passed STA630-Research Methods course.

  1. If a student fails to qualify of the Final Year Project, the “F” grade will be awarded to the student in the Final Year Project. 

 

Rules for Specialized Courses & Specialized Project:

1.       Students shall select one area of specialization comprising four courses when specialization is offered as per their scheme of studies.

 

2.       In order to select an area of specialization, students must have:

i.    Achieved a CGPA of 2 or higher

ii.     Earned 118 or more credit hours.

 

  1. In final semester, students are required to complete a Specialized Project (MCM620: Specialized Project). The Specialized Project (MCM620) shall be of 03-Credit Hours.

 

  1. In order to enroll the Specialized Project, :

                      i.        Earned 118 or more credit hours.

 

5.       The students opting for Major in electronic media will do projects on video production, music videos or documentary making, while the students opting for Major in print media should develop website of newspaper or magazine.  In this way, they will be engaged in writing articles and features

 

Procedure:

 

In order to select your courses, follow the steps below:

  1. From within the LMS, click the Student Services button
  2. Click on the Course Selection link
  3. Give preference to "F" grade course(s) and the improvement of "D" grades where possible
  4. Click the check boxes to select courses
  5. Save the selection
  6. You may make changes in course selection any number of times before the last date to add, drop or replace course(s).

 

Note: In case, a student fails to complete the Final Year Project within the stipulated time due to verifiable recorded reasons, an extension of maximum one semester may be granted by the Dean of the faculty on the recommendation of Head of Department. The permissible maximum duration of the study program shall apply while granting extension.

RECOMMENDATION: Full Time Regular Students Are Urged To Follow Their Prescribed Scheme Of Studies.
