Mass Communication
Rules: |
1. Students enrolled in the first semester of their study program are given pre-selected courses from respective study scheme by the system; all other students may select their own courses subject to their scheme of studies and the limitations prescribed in the rules below.
2. The credit hour limits are as below:
I. For the first semester a maximum of 15 credit hours is allowed. And for the second and subsequent semester(s) a maximum of 18 credit hours are allowed. However, in special circumstances university may allow students to enroll maximum 21 credit hours.
II. In case any student wishes to enroll for one more course beyond the specified credit hours limit in the last two semesters, should submit his/her request to the Rector through HoD and Dean. He/she may be allowed by the Rector provided that student’s CGPA is 3.00 or above out of 4.
III. The minimum course load in a semester shall be according to the study scheme, but in special circumstance it can be minimum of 03-credit hours.
Note: Maximum limits prescribed for enrollment of credit hours includes ‘F’ or ‘D’ grade courses, if any enrolled.
3. Students taking less than the course load prescribed by their scheme of studies will require extra semesters to complete the curriculum; in such cases they will also have to bear the additional fee.
4. During a study program, students may attempt to improve a less than "B" grade course.
5. Pathway for Associate degree holders:
I. Students who have completed an associate degree in Mass Communication equivalent to the undergraduate degree program being applied for shall be eligible for admission policy into the BS Mass Communication and a blanket exemption of credits hours obtained in the associate degree shall be awarded.
II. The minimum residency period for such entrants will be four semesters.
III. The maximum residency period for such students shall not exceed eight semesters, subject to the University’s standard academic regulations regarding course progression and completion.
6. Pathway for Associate degree holders from other disciplines:
I. Students who have completed an Associate degree in a discipline different from the Mass Communication and equivalent degree program they are applying to shall be required to complete a bridging semester of 19 Credit hours.
II. The minimum residence period for such entrants shall be five semesters.
III. The maximum residence period for such students, including the bridging semester, shall not exceed nine semesters.
Rules for Capstone Project: |

Students will submit a detailed write-up of the research project and will give a viva presentation. Only those students will be called for viva presentation, who will pass the written work.
2. In order to enroll Capstone Project, students must have:
I. Achieved a CGPA of 2 or higher
II. Earned 48 or more credit hours.
III. Passed STA630-Research Methods course.
Rules for Internship |
1. In Internship Report (MCMI619: Internship Report), students are required to complete 6-8 weeks internship in any media organization, Ad Agency or PR department. Students shall get Internship Completion Certificate issued by concerned organization.
2. Students will submit a detailed internship report and will give a viva presentation.
3. In order to enroll in the Internship course, the student must have earned 15 or more credit hours.
Award of Degree |
To become eligible for the award BS Lateral (Mass Communication) degree, the students are required to complete prescribed 65 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.

Note: In case, a student fails to complete the Final Year Project within the stipulated time due to verifiable recorded reasons, an extension of maximum one semester may be granted by the Dean of the faculty on the recommendation of Head of Department. The permissible maximum duration of the study program shall apply while granting extension.

RECOMMENDATION: Full Time Regular Students Are Urged To Follow Their Prescribed Scheme Of Studies.
