Sociology

Rules:

1.  Students enrolled in the first semester of BS Lateral Sociology degree program are given pre-selected courses from respective study scheme by the system; all other students may select their own courses subject to their scheme of studies and the limitations prescribed in the rules below.

i.              Associate degree Holders from Same Disciplines: These students shall be eligible for admission directly into the fifth semester of the Sociology undergraduate program.

ii.            Associate degree Holders from Different Disciplines: These students shall be required to complete a bridging semester 19 credit hours prior to enrollment in the fifth semester.

iii.           Two-Year BA/BSc/Equivalent Degree Holders Disciplines: These students shall be required to complete a bridging semester of 19 credit hours prior to enrollment in the fifth semester.

2. The credit hour limits are as below:

     i.  Deficiency students must complete 19 credit hours in the bridging semester prior to enrollment in the fifth semester.

     ii. For the first semester a maximum of 15 credit hours is allowed. And for the second and subsequent semester(s) a maximum of 18 credit hours are allowed. However, in special circumstances university may allow students to enroll maximum 21 credit hours.

     iii. In case any student wishes to enroll for one more course beyond the specified credit hours limit in the last two semesters, should submit his/her request to the Rector through HoD and Dean. He/she may be allowed by the Rector if student’s CGPA is 3.00 or above out of 4.

  III.        The minimum course load in a semester shall be according to the study scheme, but in special circumstance it can be minimum of 03-credit hours.

Note: Maximum limits prescribed for enrollment of credit hours includes ‘F’ or ‘D’ grade courses, if any enrolled.

4. Students taking less than the course load prescribed by their scheme of studies will require extra semesters to complete the curriculum; in such cases they will also have to bear the additional fee.

5. During a study program, students may attempt to improve a less than "B" grade course.

6. Pathway for Associate degree holders:

I.             Students who have completed an associate degree in Sociology, Anthropology/Cultural Anthropology, Gender Studies/Gender & Women Studies, Developmental Studies/Community development, Population Studies/Demography and any other Relevant Degree to be determined by the department equivalent to the undergraduate degree program being applied for shall be eligible for admission policy into the BS Sociology and a blanket exemption of credits hours obtained in the associate degree shall be awarded.

II.            The minimum residency period for such entrants will be four semesters.

III.          The maximum residency period for such students shall not exceed eight semesters, subject to the University’s standard academic regulations regarding course progression and completion.

 7. Pathway for Associate degree holders from other disciplines:

I.             Students who have completed an Associate degree in a discipline different from the Sociology and equivalent degree program shall be required to complete a bridging semester of 19 Credit hours.

II.            The minimum residence period for such entrants shall be five semesters.

III.          The maximum residence period for such students, including the bridging semester, shall not exceed nine semesters.

Rules for Capstone Project

1.    The Capstone Project shall be of 03-Credit Hours and will be offered in 4th semester.

2.   To enroll for a Final Year Project, students must have:

    1. Achieved a CGPA of 2.0 or higher.
    2. A minimum of 45 credit hours is required.
    3. Passed SOC509-Quantitative Research Methodology and SOC609-Qualitative Research Methods courses

3.    These two course are pre-requisite of SOC499-Capstone Project. If a student fails to qualify these two courses, he/she will not be able to enroll in SOC499-Capstone Project. Students will submit a detailed written capstone project report and will give a viva presentation. Only those students will be called for viva presentation, who will pass the written work.

4.    If a student fails to qualify/pass the Final Year Project, the “F” grade will be awarded to the student in the Final Year Project. 

Rules for Internship/Field Experience

1.    In Internship Report (SOCI619: Internship Report), students are required to complete 6-8 weeks internship in any NGO, Social welfare agency or voluntary organization. Students shall get Internship Completion Certificate issued by concerned organization.

2.    To enroll in the Internship course, the student must have earned 15 or more credit hours.

3.     Students will submit a detailed internship report and will give a viva presentation.

 Procedure:

To select your courses, follow the steps below:

  1. From within the LMS, click the Course Selection link.
  2. Give preference to "F" grade course(s) and the improvement of "D" grades where possible
  3. Click the check boxes to select courses
  4. Save the selection
  5. You may make changes in course selection any number of times before the last date to add, drop or replace course(s).

Note: In case, a student fails to complete the Capstone Year Project within the stipulated time due to verifiable recorded reasons, an extension of maximum one semester may be granted by the Dean of the faculty on the recommendation of Head of Department. The permissible maximum duration of the study program shall apply while granting extension.
