Course Selection
BS-Lateral Bioinformatics
Rules:
1. Students coming from non-bioinformatics backgrounds (e.g., biology, computer science, chemistry) will be required to enroll and pass a bridging semester consisting of 19 credit hours before enrolling in the first semester.
2. Students enrolled in the first semester of their study program are given pre-selected courses; all other students may select their own courses subject to their scheme of studies and the limitations prescribed in the rules below.
3. The credit hour limits are as below:
I. For the first and second semesters a maximum of 16 credit hours are allowed.
II. For the third and subsequent semester(s) a maximum of 18 credit hours are allowed. However, in certain cases, the University may allow to enroll maximum 21 credit hours.
III. For the last two semesters, maximum 21 credit hours of coursework are allowed in addition to Project/Internship as applicable, subject to the condition that all degree requirements will be completed within the same semester and no other course selection rules, such as pre-requisite or specialization requirements, will be violated. In case any student wishes to enroll for one more course beyond the specified credit hours’ limit in the last two semesters, should submit their request to the Rector through Dean. Rector may allow for the additional course if student’s CGPA is 3.00 or above out of 4.00.
IV. A student who scores “F” grade in any course(s) in a Semester, shall have to repeat that specific course(s) in the forthcoming semester(s) when that course(s) is/are offered by the University.
V. In case a student repeats one or more course(s) and fails to improve the grade, then the grade obtained previously by the student may be retained.
Note: Maximum limits prescribed for enrollment of credit hours include F’ or ‘D’ grade courses, if any enrolled.
4. Students taking less than the course load prescribed by their scheme of studies will require extra semesters to complete the curriculum; in such cases they will also have to bear the additional cost.
5. A student can anytime improve a course in which his/her obtained grade is less than “B”. In such case, he/she has to repeat the improvement course(s) in the forthcoming semester(s), in which that course is offered.
6. To be eligible for the award of BS degree, the students are required to complete prescribed course work of 65 credit hours with a minimum Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA) of 2.0 out of 4.
Rules For Final Year Project:
1. The Final Year Project shall be of 6-Credit Hours and will be split in the 3rd and 4th semester equally (carrying a workload of 3 credit hours per semester).
2. To enroll in the Final Year Project:
I. A CGPA of 1.90 or higher is required.
II. A minimum of 24 credit hours is required.

Note: In case, a student fails to complete the Final Year Project within the stipulated time due to verifiable recorded reasons, an extension of maximum one semester may be granted by the Dean of the faculty on the recommendation of Head of Department. The permissible maximum duration of the study program shall apply while granting extension.

RECOMMENDATION: Full Time Regular Students Are Urged to Follow Their Prescribed Scheme of Studies.
