Course Selection

BS English (Applied Linguistics)

Rules: 

  1. Students enrolled in the first semester of their study program are given pre-selected courses; all other students may select their own courses subject to their scheme of studies and the limitations prescribed in the rules below. 
  1. The credit hours limit is as below: 
  1. For the first semester, a maximum of 17 credit hours is allowed. 
  1. For the second semester, a maximum of 17 credit hours is allowed. For the third semester a maximum of 21 credit hours is allowed.
  1. For the fourth and subsequent semester(s), a maximum of 18 credit hours is allowed. However, in certain cases, the University may allow the student to take a maximum of 21 credit hours only if the student’s CGPA is ≥ 3.00 out of 4. 
  1. For the final semester, a maximum of 21 credit hours of coursework are allowed in addition to Research Project/Fieldwork, subject to the condition that all degree requirements will be completed within the same semester and no other course selection rules, such as pre-requisite or specialization requirements, will be violated. 

Note:Maximum limits prescribed for enrollment of credit hours includes ‘F’ or ‘D’ grade courses, if any enrolled. 

  1. Students taking less than the course load prescribed by their scheme of studies will require extra semesters to complete the curriculum; in such cases they will also have to bear the additional cost. 
  1. According to University’s grade improvement policy, in any of the subsequent semesters, a student may repeat those course(s) of the previous semester(s) in which he/she had secured less than grade i.e. B’ only, before completion of entire course work program and mark pass out. Any improved grade will substitute ‘F’ and ‘D’ grade of the previous semester for calculating CGPA. 

Rules for Fieldwork/Internship  

  1. Students are required to complete a Fieldwork/Internship (ENG498) of 3-credit hours in the 7th semester of BS.In order to get enrolled for the Fieldwork, students must have: 

          i. Achieved a CGPA of 1.75 or higher 

         ii. Earned 81 or more credit hours 

  1. Students are required to complete 6-8 weeks internship in any organization (school, college, university, writing, copyediting, translation work-based organization).   
  1. Students are required to submit a detailed Internship Report (IR) for evaluation and an Internship Completion Certificate (ICC) at the end of the internship program. A viva may be conducted based on the report submitted.
  1. They are required to request their internship supervisor(s) to send a performance report of the internee by filling up the prescribed evaluation form and submitting it to the university. 

Note: Evaluation of the ‘fieldwork/Internship-ENG498’ will be graded. If a student fails to qualify the Field Work requirements, “F” grade will be awarded to the student. 

Rules for Capstone/Research Project 

  1. Students are required to complete a Capstone/Research Project (ENG499) of 3-credit hours in the final semester of BS.In order to get enrolled for the project, students must have: 

   i. Achieved a CGPA of 2.0 or higher 

   ii. Earned 96 or more credit hours 

   iii. Passed ENG518 (Research Methodology in ELT) 

  1. Students are required to submit a detailed write-up of the capstone/research project and will give a viva presentation. Only those students will be called for a viva presentation, who will pass the written work. 

Note: Evaluation of the ‘capstone/research Project-ENG499’ will be graded and if a student fails to qualify Capstone Project, “F” grade will be awarded to the student. 

 

Procedure: 

In order to select your courses, follow the steps below: 

  1. From within the LMS, click the Course Selectionlink.
  1. Give preference to ‘F’ grade course(s) and the improvement of ‘D’ grades from the third semester onwards 
  1. Click the check boxes to select courses 
  1. Save the selection 
  1. You may make changes in course selection any number of times before the last date to add, drop or replace course(s).
